Telephonic Hearings
 

A litigant may participate in a hearing at the Washington Township Small Claims Court by telephone by submitting a written request to participate by telephone on the court approved form for making a request to participate by telephone.

The court approved forms for making a request to participate by telephone can be found in the forms section of this website. Form 17 may be submitted by a Self-Represented Litigant or an Attorney for an individual case. Form 18 may be submitted by an Attorney who has more than one case scheduled in a court session and who wishes to participate in the entire court session by phone.


Instructions for Participation in a Telephonic Hearing
  1. A written request to participate by telephone may be submitted in person at the court office at any time prior to hearing. The court office is located at 5302 N. Keystone Avenue, Suite E, Indianapolis, Indiana.

  2. A written request to participate by telephone may be submitted by FAX (317-327-8190), email (washingtontownship.smallclaims@gmail.com), or efile as long as the written request is submitted two (2) business days in advance of the hearing or court session.

  3. Please keep in mind that although a court session is scheduled to begin at a specific time that it is not possible to hear or call all of the cases at the same time. Therefore, you must be available for a phone call beginning at the time the court session is scheduled to begin until the session is completed.

  4. A telephone hearing is a court proceeding. Participants must maintain the same decorum on the phone that is required in the courtroom.

  5. Participants may not drive a motor vehicle during a telephonic hearing.

  6. A request to participate by telephone only applies to the hearing identified within the request and must be repeated for each hearing that a participant wants to participate in by phone.

  7. A litigant may not participate by telephone if the litigant was previously ordered by the court to participate in person or by video.

  8. If you chose to participate by telephone and you are not available at the phone number provided then you will be treated as if you failed to appear in court.
